The New CoachOn May 30, Sandy and Kenny Olivers' RV was unveiled to them, their family, friends and her many ALS supporters including "Sandy's Soldiers" at the Buck Owens Crystal Palace. There was coverage from all the local networks including ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX. Sandy took some time to share her thoughts with us...

Well, the wait is over…finally we get to see the motorhome, or should I say “I” get to see it. The suspense was building. I arrived at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace, instructed by Kenny and my son Matt to keep my eyes closed. I was met by my wonderful family, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, my kids and my two Grandsons, Andrew and Cooper. Then we were all escorted into the Crystal Palace to keep cool. Yes, as luck would have it, the day was hot and humid.

The family was soon escorted out, leaving Kenny and I with the local TV stations, to do interviews. We could hear everyone outside laughing, cheering, and having a great time. The excitement within me was about to burst!

Finally, it was time to unveil. I went outside. I was overwhelmed with emotion, there were so many friends, family AND other ALS patients with their walk teams. I could not turn around without seeing smiling faces, some of which I had not seen in years. It seems, that RV Buddies, had somehow gotten the Buck Owens' Radio station to make several announcements about my story. In addition, the local chapter of the ALS Association had put out a call to all PALS (patients with ALS) and their walk teams to come out and help make awareness of this disease.

Back to the MOTORHOME! I was wheeled outside in front of the cheering crowd. Then... We heard the horn, coming through the parking lot, driven by Dave from Final Touch. There was my newly renovated and painted motor home. As you can see from the pictures, the outside was unbelievable. Tears came to my eyes, I was shocked and elated at the sight. It looked like a brand new coach!

The lift came down, and I was able to load into it, without Kenny pushing from behind. The inside was just beautiful. Completely opened, new furniture, flooring, renovated bath to accommodate my wheelchair. It was unbelievable.

I loaded up, grabbed Kenny and my oldest Grandson. We waived goodbye to the crowd. We drove home, where we could admire the transformation inch by inch.

Now, to the Grand Canyon in 4 days - much prep work to do, but first...

I wish to THANK, Cliff, Mark and all of the crew from RV Buddies. Without them, nothing would have been possible. They have become family to Kenny & I.

Also, Dave Clodfelter & Joel Forte, from Final Touch Coachworks, who spent hours upon hours on designing and painting the coach. Lynn Kimotsuki at Dupont and Todd D’Angelos at D’Angelos Automotive & Industrial Coatings who generously donated the paint.

Mujeeb Kahn at RV Décor and his crew for the transformation of the interior, which will allow me once again to enjoy our RV adventures.

To all my friends and family, the LA ALS Association, a great big THANK YOU for being there and helping to spread awareness of ALS.

Adios for now...
Sandy
